Fraisoro with Sahara

Due to the fundraising to help the people of the Sahara, we received a visit from Eli Eizagirre of the Tolosaldea Sahararekin Association. To explain his campaign, he gave a speech to each of the first-year groups of the Horticulture, Agriculture and Livestock Production and Forest Management cycles. "Tolosaldea Sahararekin" is an association that was created 21 years ago to help the Sahrawi people. This people has been expelled from their land for 45 years, and has been waiting for a referendum on self-determination for 30 years since the signing of the peace agreement promoted by the United Nations in 1991. The Sahrawis who remained in the occupied Sahara live with almost no rights, separated from their families and oppressed. Torture and ill-treatment are also part of everyday life. The situation of the Sahrawis who were able to escape is not good. The Sahrawis in the Tindouf camps survive thanks to the humanitarian aid sent by various countries.
The pandemic has led to the closure of the Algerian border, making the situation much more difficult. For example, in February 2020, trucks transporting food for the annual collection for the Sahara were stopped in Alicante for 10 months. On the other hand, the 2020 and 2021 Holidays in Peace campaigns have been canceled. Thanks to this campaign, Sahrawi children have the opportunity to spend two months of the summer with us, but due to the pandemic, they have been deprived of a summer stay that is so important for their health. The peace agreement that Morocco broke last November has not improved the situation of the Sahrawis either. Faced with this situation, due to the closure of the borders and the problems of transporting humanitarian aid, the Tolosaldea Sahararekin association, in collaboration with other associations and NGOs, has organized a fundraiser to buy products that are usually sent from here in Algeria. As a reference, they have provided the prices of products sent to Algeria, and have made a calculation, proposing a symbolic donation of 11.38 euros. Donations can be made by transfer (Kutxabank 2095 5081 93 1062503346) or via Visa (select "donate" and search for "Tolosaldea Sahararekin").
